What ages does Hillside Cottage cater for?
We cater for all children from the ages of 6 weeks to school age.
What are the operating hours?
Our operating hours are Monday to Friday 6.45am – 6.15pm.
Do you provide flexibility in your daily sessions?
We offer flexible sessions including 9 and 10-hour sessions as well as our ‘all day’ sessions so you can make the most of the Child Care Subsidy. We understand that every family is different and not everyone needs 12 hours of child care or kindergarten/preschool a day. Now you have the option to choose a session that suits you.
Make the most of your eligible subsidised hours to help minimise your out-of-pocket costs.
Do the children receive meals?
We provide all meals to our children – morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a light dinner for children who are still in attendance after 5pm, along with snacks through the day. All our meals are fresh and nutritious and cooked daily on site by our own chef.
A nutritious diet is vital for children’s development, so we make sure to provide meals that give children all the nutrients and energy they need. Children love to eat together, so the meal times at our centre are always fun!
Are nappies provided for babies and toddlers?
Yes, nappies are provided and included, along with all other essentials.
What do I need to pack in my child’s bag?
When you first enrol, we will provide you with everything you need to know about starting care, including a detailed list of what to bring each day. In the meantime, here’s a general guide to help:
- Change of clothes (when involved with hands-on play-based learning, your child may get a little messy!)
- Comfort item (if required), such as a toy or blanket
- Dummy in a sealed, named container (if required)
- Bottles for water and milk
- Any medications – please give these to centre staff to manage directly. Please note our centres have formal processes in place to support children who require short or long-term medications as well as management plans for children with any known medical conditions. Please speak further with your centre staff regarding this.
Do I need to pack sunscreen?
As a sun-safe organisation we provide child-friendly sunscreen, however if your child has sensitive skin please feel free to provide your preferred brand.
What else should I pack in my child’s bag?
We will be able to advise you of anything specific they may need, however most importantly please remember to label all of your child’s items so we can easily keep track of them.
Are parents allowed to visit/play?
We have an ‘open door’ policy, so family members are always welcome to stay for a play at their own convenience. We also encourage parents to attend ‘special activities’ and excursions with their children and their friends.
Are all your staff qualified?
Our staff are all qualified in early education, or are in the process of completing further study to become qualified for senior positions within the early education sector. All our Lead Educators hold their early childhood Diploma, and our Teachers hold their Bachelor of Education – Early Childhood.
What about when my child cries?
It is suggested that goodbyes are not prolonged as this can add to the separation anxiety of the child. Have a cuddle and a kiss then say goodbye and leave. It may be harder on you this way but it is much easier on your child. The Centre Director or Lead Educator will contact parent/guardians if your child does not settle and will provide the family with information and suggestions to make separation easier. We will also contact parents if their child was particularly upset when they left.
Will it take my child long to settle into child care?
All children settle in their own way and in their own time. We ensure that new children feel welcomed and give new starters extra attention to make settling easier for them. Separation anxiety may occur but is temporary and will pass. Our caring team will help both you and your child through any difficult time.
