Book Week incorporated in our program throughout the whole centre is a celebration of Australian literature as well as bringing the children’s love for books and dressing up. It’s a week of holding storytelling time, enriching children imagination while developing the children’s language and literacy skills. The educator’s involvement helps children to develop a love for books and reading becoming an enthusiastic learner but most of all the children’s excitement as they role play their character that they have dressed up in.

Last day of Science 🔬 Week, and the Preschool children made more complex thinking and asking open ended questions.  Educator Aggie embedded the same experience (Flowers is food dye) however we revisited the flowers and made discussions whether our predictions on Monday were correct. We made new predictions and placed the jars in order from the strongest colour to the slightest colour.  1. Blue 1st
    2. Yellow 2nd
    3. Green 3rd
    4. Black 4th
    5. Pink 5th  This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

Children were amazed at the reaction the tablet had to the water and oil making it fizz and bubble and creating a lava effect, watching the beautiful colours move around. This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

Science 🔬 Week is still ongoing, and the Preschool children made more complex thinking and asking open ended questions, in there 👨‍🔬 👩‍🔬. Educator Aggie embedded a dishwashing, food dye and milk experiment. Children had a turn watching educator Aggie embed the experience and ask open ended questions and then the children had a turn exploring and challenging their cognitive skills. Educator Aggie explained that “When liquid dish soap is added to milk with drops of food coloring on the surface, the soap reduces the surface tension of the milk and reacts with the fat. This interaction causes the fat particles in the milk to move and create swirls of color.” This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

Children worked as a team and said “The first bowl will be the ice cube that will felt first because its in hot water”- Zayne, Gurmeher and Elijah. “The 2nd bowl will be 2nd, its cold water, because it’s the same temperature”-Angela, Christina and Sophia. “The 3rd bowl will melt last because there is no water and it will be slower”- Isaac and Audrey.  This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

Science week for our toddler children was with the M&Ms experiment. The children was involved in investigating what happens when we pour warm water over the M&Ms. The children watched the colours dissolve into the water and as the water runs the colours started to mix observing the primary and secondary colours. What a way to enhance their critical thinking skills, cultivating curiosity and understanding.

Children watched in amazement as the volcano pretended to erupt because of the vinegar and baking soda reacting together, fizzing and because its acid.  This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

Science 🔬 Week has begun, and the Prekinder children, challenge their critical thinking and asked many open ended questions, how? and why? Educator Floria introduced a colour changing walking water experiment, using 6 jars using blue, green, yellow, red and green colours and tissue paper. Children watched as the water absorbed the paper and mixed colours.  This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

The 2nd day of Science 🔬 Week, children made more complex predictions, in our SINK AND FLOAT EXPERIMENT. 👨‍🔬 👩‍🔬. Children choose 2 recycled materials from our arts and craft corner. Gurmeher choose a feather and a foam sticker, Ashton choose a cotton ball and a Pom Pom, Angelee choose a texta and a paddle pop stick, Cristian choose tissue paper and a large cotton pad, Lily choose a coloured stick and a large button, Audrey choose a small button and a goggly eye and lastly Educator Aggie picked glitter and scissors. Children challenged their vocabulary skills saying “I have a feather, my prediction is it will float because its light” OR “I have a large button, my prediction is that it will sink because it’s heavy” AS WELL AS. “My item is a cotton ball, it will float then sink, because the water will absorb and it will drop to the bottom of the container”.  Children were fascinated by the items and watching them sink or float and challenging their curiosity about the world around them and asking why? and how? things happen.  This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

The children are very excited about Science 🔬 Week, making predictions and been a scientist 👨‍🔬 👩‍🔬. We also did a flower and food dye experiments. Educator Aggie filled 5 different jars with children choice food dye colours (yellow, black, green, pink and blue) and we will be checking the flowers everyday to see whether the petals change colour and we made predictions that black will show up first as it’s darker and yellow will be last as it’s lighter.  This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations.

As Science 🔬 Week has begun this week, Preschool children also did a spontaneous xylophone music experiment with different levels of water. Sound is created by vibrations. ... With our musical water glasses, when there is more water in the glass, the pitch of the sound produced is lower because the water has caused the glass to vibrate slower. When there is a smaller amount of water in the glass the pitch is higher because the glass is vibrating faster. Children had lots of fun tapping the jars and comparing the sounds and making music as well as mixing the jars in different height order as well as water levels.  This experience links to Learning Learning (Outcome 4.2.1): Apply a wide variety of thinking strategies to engage with situations and solve problems, and adapt these strategies to new situations

As Science 🔬 Week has begun this week, the Preschool children have challenging their critical thinking, making predictions and been scientists for a week exploring many hands on activities that allow children to experiment and ask how? And why? Questions. Today the children explored a volume experience, with different sized and shaped jars with 125ml water. Children made predictions on whether the taller the glass, the more water it must hold. This is not always the case, especially if it is tall and thin. This simple experiment shows that you cannot determine the volume based on the height of an object.  This experience links with Learning (Outcome 4.2.5): Manipulate objects and experiment with cause and effect, trail and error and motion.
